The Mentor Program

The Professional Coaches Association of Michigan (PCAM), winner of one of six ICF Chapter Awards in 2009, is pleased to announce the Spring 2010 PCAM Mentor Coach Program to be conducted on Thursday, May 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Detroit metro area. This in-person, full-day class will satisfy 7 of the 10 hours required for mentor coaching for those actively seeking their Associate Certified Coach (ACC) or Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credential from the ICF. Each participant will also receive three hours of personalized mentor coaching with PCAM’s three Mentor Coaches: Sylvia Becker-Hill, David Chinsky and Grace Menzel.

Coaches participating in the program are expected to meet the ICF eligibility requirements for pursuing a credential, including completion of a coach-specific training program. The fee for the PCAM Mentor Coach Program is $500 per participant. This fee covers 10 hours of mentor coaching, including seven hours of group mentor coaching and three hours of individual mentor coaching. Payment is due and payable to PCAM at the time of registration. To register for the May 6 class, please visit http://2010mentorcoaching.eventbrite.com

FAQs

What are the objectives of the PCAM Mentor Program?
The PCAM Mentor Program is a PCAM-member benefit that provides assistance in the form of 10 hours of mentor coaching to coaches applying for their ACC (Associate Certified Coach) or PCC (Professional Certified Coach) credentials from the ICF (International Coach Federation).

Why do I need mentor coaching?
Beginning July 1, 2008, all portfolio applicants for the ICF ACC credential are required to complete 10 hours of mentor coaching. The PCAM Mentor Program will supply these 10 hours and help prepare ACC applicants for their credentialing exams.

How does the program work?
Over the course of three months, participating coaches will receive two or three group and three individual mentor coaching experiences for a total of 10 hours. The focus of the program is on the ICF Core Coaching Competencies to help coaches prepare for the examination process in order to attain their ICF credential.

When and where does the mentoring group meet?
Mentor groups are offered in two formats: face-to-face and teleclass. Dates, times and locations of the mentoring programs can be found on the PCAM website. We have established a minimum of four participants for each program.

Who will be mentoring the coaches in the program?
All mentor coaches will have earned either their PCC or MCC (Master Certified Coach) credential from the ICF and will be committed to the success of program participants. The Mentor Coaches in 2009 will be Sylvia Becker-Hill, David Chinsky and Grace Menzel. All three of these coaches hold the PCC credential from the ICF.

What expectations exist for participants in the program?
Coaches participating in the program are expected to meet the ICF eligibility requirements for pursuing a credential, including completion of a coach-specific training program. Participants are expected to commit to active participation throughout the program, to coach in front of their group at least once during the program, to provide honest and constructive feedback to others in their group, attend all group and individual mentoring sessions, secure written authorizations to record at least two coaching sessions that are used in the program and pay for the mentor coaching at the time of registration. All participants also must be current members of the Professional Coaches Association of Michigan.

What is the cost of participating in the PCAM Mentor Program?
The fee for the PCAM Mentor Program is $500 per participant. This fee covers 10 hours of mentor coaching, including seven hours of group mentor coaching and three hours of individual mentor coaching. Payment is due and payable to PCAM at the time of registration.

More Information

At our annual conference last year two people won complimentary coaching sessions with our Mentor Coaches. Here is what one of them had to say:
"Dear Grace, Sylvia and David, I want to express my sincere gratitude for the immeasurable growth I achieved as a result of participating in your PCAM Mentor Program. You guys were professional in your approach and thorough in your delivery. The value of the program is : the convenience, cost, professional growth and development, as well as the insights and skills acquired are immediately applicable to ones coaching practice. The uniqueness of the program is to have three highly certified coaches with diverse backgrounds and approaches guiding/instructing/critiquing simultaneously providing immediate feedback. What catpulted my professional growth the most was the three, one hour, one on one coaching session each of you provided. There is no textbook or school that can compete with the authenticity of that experience. On behalf of all my future clients... Thank you, "  - Helena L. Mays
