Overview:

This session will showcase two International Coach Federation (ICF) master certified coaches as they coach a "real" client live. You will learn about the ICF, delve into the core competencies, learn about credentialing and takeaway new applications to take your own coaching to the next level. We will break out into circles of about 8 or so people to debrief each demo in order to share and capture the wisdom within all of us. What ICF competencies were present? What was most powerful about the coaching? What was missing? What will you do differently next week? Who will you be? Come join the circle, share your wisdom and be transformed.

Influencing the Resurgence of Michigan will be a highly interactive session with Linda Miller, MCC of The Ken Blanchard Companies. She will be using various tools; providing a coaching demonstration; and utilizing experiential exercises to help you determine what type of leader you are called to be during this historic time in Michigan. Bio:

Since 1995, Linda has been an executive coach, trainer and facilitator. In 1997, Linda helped launch Corporate Coach U, a leader in organizational coach training where she served as brand manager and senior facilitator for "The Coaching Clinic" training program.

In 2000, Linda was recruited by The Ken Blanchard Companies to help launch their coaching services. Serving as Global Liaison for Coaching, Linda co-authored and oversees "Coaching Essentials for Leaders," a coach training program that The Ken Blanchard Companies offers throughout the world.

Holding two master's degrees, Linda worked for 12 years in the behavioural science field. Since her transition into coaching, Linda has coached and trained leaders and their teams. Clients include Adobe, Alltel, Boeing, Deloitte, Duke Energy, Edward Jones, Franklin Templeton, KPMG, Nissan, Pfizer, SAP, Scotia Bank, Wells Fargo, and MBA program staff at the University of Washington and University of Southern California.

Active in the International Coach Federation (ICF), Linda is a former board member and founding recipient of the Master Certified Coach (MCC) designation. While residing in Seattle and in Phoenix, Linda co-founded and co-hosted local ICF chapters.

One of the highlights for Linda during the 2008 election cycle was co-leading a team that moderated 13 of the Arizona state legislative debates in collaboration with the Arizona Clean Elections Commission.

In the past two years, Linda has co-authored two books. The most recent, released in May 2008 by Wiley and Sons, is Coaching in Organizations: Best Practices from The Ken Blanchard Companies. Prior to that, Linda co-authored Coaching for Christian Leaders: A Practical Guide published by Chalice Press. Along with the books, Linda has been featured in numerous articles, radio and TV segments including the Los Angeles Times, Seattle Times, Strategy and Leadership, HR Magazine and ASTD's Training and Development, KING 5 TV News and on NPR radio.

Bio:

Garry Schleifer, PCC, is a business development coach specializing in working with women who own their own businesses. He uses his 21+ years of business experience to support his coaching.

Garry applies a signature approach of "Ruthless Compassion" when helping these women business owners. His approach recognizes that challenging goals must be set and rigorously adhered to - but always with an innate sensitivity, good humour and non-judgement.

Garry's "walk the talk" credentials draw from long experience as the visionary behind several multimillion-dollar corporations.

From concept in 1988, he built Synoptic Logistics Management - a distributor to corporations of point-of-sale marketing materials - into a business with $3.5 million in annual revenue. He then planned and managed the merger of Synoptic with a competitor, becoming President of Dyment Distribution Services, the 100-employee, post-merger organization, in 1996.

In his coaching business, Garry has applied his experience to client engagements including Sysco Food Services Canada, Drake International, Dupar Controls, Street Haven Women's Shelter and the United Nations World Food Program.

Garry earned his CPCC designation at one of the world's foremost coach training and certification bodies, the Coaches Training Institute and is now a PCC (Professional Certified Coach) as designated by the ICF (International Coach Federation).

Along with Concept Synoptic Inc., he is also the Publisher of choice, the magazine of professional coaching, www.choice-online.com distributed quarterly to subscribers in 28 countries. Terry Margolis (t.k.margolis@wayne.edu), Director of Educational Outreach and Executive and Professional Development at Wayne State University, has over 20 years of experience in organizational development and over 10 years experience as a management and executive coach. Ms. Margolis oversees the development, design, marketing, implementation and evaluation of customized leadership development programs, executive education and executive coaching for corporate clients as well as programming for WSU's five extension centers located around the metropolitan Detroit area. Ms. Margolis received her M.B.A. with high distinction from the University of Michigan and her B.S. in organizational psychology from Wayne State University.

Audra Taylor (audrataylor@wayne.edu), Project Manager for Executive and Professional Development at Wayne State University, has over 15 years of experience in the publishing, energy, government, healthcare, automotive and professional services sectors.
