What is Michigan Coaching Awareness Month – February 2009?
Beginning in February, qualified volunteer coach members of PCAM will provide two free hours of coaching by phone per client in celebration of the ICF’s International Coach Week, February 1 – 7, 2009.

"I am really pleased that so many coaches are participating in International Coaching Week. It is very gratifying to know that so many people are offering pro bono coaching and other community events in such a heartfelt way. When I started National Coaching Week (which later became International Coaching Week) in 1999, I had no idea that it would soon take on a life of its own. I really am delighted that this week is becoming a focal point for both publicizing coaching worldwide and providing the public with a sense of the possibilities that coaching offers."
Jerri N. Udelson
Excerpt from the December 2006 ICF Coaching World Newsletter
Who Can Participate?
Michigan residents who are impacted by the current economy and who possess a "can do" attitude with readiness for change are encouraged to participate.

Why Participate?
Here is what one past participant has to say:
"Thank you so much for pro bono coaching...I found our sessions very helpful. You gained an initial understanding of me and my situation very quickly. It's funny how some of us, when we lose our jobs, seem to forget everything we have learned...and so don't use that knowledge in our job search. You enabled me to realize that I have a lot of skills that I just plain wasn't using towards my search.

You also enforced for me my recent choice to begin focusing more on what I want rather than exclusively focusing on what I know how to do. You recommended a book to help me do that, which I am currently working my way through. You encouraged me with ways to listen to myself to know what I want. You inspired my realization that...I have the ability and the responsibility to choose my life and career path.

You reminded me that I can change habits, and through our discussions we thought of two habits that would improve my life which I will cultivate in place of their corresponding unhelpful habits."

Here is what one past volunteer coach has to say:
"I'm very grateful that PCAM sponsored such a wonderful event (the 2007 Michigan Coach Month) and that I was able to give back as a volunteer coach.  My experience with my clients was extremely positive and resulted in one finding a job of her choosing and inspired the other into appropriate action to follow her desired career path.  I was inspired by the courage each of them demonstrated as they committed to doing the challenging and important work needed to achieve their goals."

Career and Life Coach
Where does the coaching take place?
The coaching sessions will be conducted by telephone, as most coaching is done worldwide. The coaching is provided on a pro-bono basis (i.e., at no fee), any costs for the phone call is the participants responsibility.

What is expected of me?
The participants are expected show up to all coaching appointments, ready for coaching, and follow-through on the commitments made during the coaching sessions.

Individuals who take advantage of this coaching opportunity are under NO obligation to continue coaching once their two sessions are completed. This program is being offered solely as a benefit to our Michigan community and no remuneration is expected from individuals who chose to participate.

How do I sign up?
Step 1: Take the time to view the profiles of the volunteer coaches. Volunteering coaches are listed alphabetical by last name. This will help you identify your top three choices for a Coach.

For your information, when a coach has completed their intended number of voluntary coaching hours their profile will no longer be available through this link and a note "Volunteer Coach Hours Completed."
Step 2: Register by filling out this brief online survey. You'll be asked to provide your contact information, list your coach preferences and determine for yourself your readiness for coaching. The survey will take between 5 to 10 minutes to complete.
Step 3: After submitting the survey, the Project Leader, Joyce Wiazowski, will contact you with your assigned coach.
